The present research, of a descriptive qualitative nature, which was supported by content analysis according to the procedures detailed by Bardin, aimed to analyze the implications of public policies in the performance of guardianship counselors in coping with sexual violence against children and adolescents. It had as participants 6 (six) guardianship councilors from 2 (two) municipalities in the interior of São Paulo and used as a data collection instrument a questionnaire composed of 22 (twenty-two) questions that covered this theme. The results obtained attest that the guardianship counselors do not have an accurate knowledge on this subject, and it was verified that few of these professionals took a course that addressed the subject of sexual violence. In addition, it was possible to notice the lack of knowledge they present about public policies aimed at protecting children and adolescents, revealing the need for a peculiar training of such professionals, to provide better service to the children and youth public.
