“Domingas” Between the Ropes of Servitude and the Threads of Identity by Milton Hatoum's Two Brothers

This article analyzes the place of indigenous peoples in the urban world of Manaus, essentially indigenous women, through the character Domingas. Through the novel Two Brothers and the character's story, Milton Hatoum portrays the exploitation of female and indigenous child labor that has occurred and continues to occur in the region to this day, revealing the social and economic nuances that permeate the reality of many young Amazonian women.
