This article aims to present an explanatory summary about the Independence of Brazil. From the teaching experience, in the undergraduate history classes, I intend to discuss independence as a historical process, highlighting the collapse of colonialism, the arrival of the Portuguese Court in 1808 and the creation of an independent state from 1822. Our intention is to understand the character and the developments of independence as the victory of the imperial project Bragantino, which took place through political debate and also the expressive civil struggle until the middle of the nineteenth century, with the preservation of social order and territorial integrity
