Urban markets, public health and animal protection in Portugal (19th-20th centuries)

Abstract

O principal objetivo deste texto é revisitar o tema dos mercados portugueses e, a partir dos seus regulamentos, avaliar a relação entre abastecimento, saúde pública, higiene e proteção animal, no Portugal dos séculos XIX e XX. Sabendo-se que as sensibilidades foram variando ao longo dos tempos, procuraram-se sinais identificativos de novas perceções da realidade, mormente das preocupações com o bem-estar animal.
