This article aims to reflect on male violence, gender hierarchies, and the social problem of child rape in Brazil, based on an examination of a rape case that occurred in Sant’Anna do Catú – Bahia in 1920. Using the concept of “rape culture,” this article is developed through the analysis of the discourses produced by the plaintiff, defendant, witnesses, municipal judge, and experts, as recorded in the criminal proceedings.
