Abstract

Brazilian cities are recognized for materializing in their landscape aspects of economic and social inequalities, which mostly affect poor people, women heads of families and the great mass of black population, which are still very invisible and neglected in studies and actions that deal with socio-environmental vulnerability in the urban space. To contribute to this discussion, this work uses several mappings carried out in Salvador (Bahia), one of the largest cities in Brazil and the one that concentrates the largest contingents of self-declared black or brown population. Contradictorily, despite constituting the largest population group in the city, occupying risk areas and being subject to greater socio-environmental vulnerabilities, the black population has their living spaces marginalized in public actions and policies to increase resilience due to climate change and of environmental requalification projects and mitigation of environmental and social vulnerabilities.
