THE CHALLENGE OF ACCESS TO JUSTICE AND PROCEDURAL ACTIVISM

Abstract

Implementing the Justice System in Amazonian communities is a very complex challenge, justifying the role of the Judiciary as coordinator of the system, which the article calls procedural activism. Both bodies directly related to the jurisdictional provision, as well as those that work cooperatively or in technical assistance need to work and realize the dimension of its importance in the System. In view of the structural deficiencies, it is only possible to take the Justice System to the communities of the Amazon of Pará through procedural activism.

Author Biographies

Peter Mann de Toledo, Universidade Federal do Pará

Possui graduação em Licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1983), mestrado em Geociências pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1986) e doutorado em PhD In Geology - University of Colorado nos EUA (1995). Atualmente é pesquisador titular do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais-INPE/MCTI, lotado na Coordenação Geral de Ciências da Terra. Atua na divisão de impacto, adaptação e vulnerabilidades sociais e ambientais. Tem experiência na área de Paleozoologia e Paleoecologia, e na temática de Ciências Ambietais atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: políticas públicas em Ciência e Tecnologia na Amazônia, Paleontologia e paleoecologia. É professor orientador do Curso de Mestrado e Doutorado em Ciências Ambientais, convênio UFPA-MPEG-Embrapa e do PPGDEAM no NUMA/UFPA. Atualmente desenvolve pesquisa interdisciplinar sobre a Amazônia e biodiversidade. Membro do Conselho Gestor da Plataforma AdaptaBrasil MCTI em risco de impactos das mudanças climáticas.
