Abstract

The general objective of the investigation was to analyze the record of ethical procedures used in Master’s and Doctoral research in the Education area, completed in 2013 and 2017, in Brazilian graduate programs considered of national and international excellence by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, acronym in Portuguese). It deals with a subject that is still little studied nationally and internationally. The pragmatic paradigm, the mixed approach and the convergent parallel project were adopted, in addition to the documentary research method. Access was obtained to a sample of 4,895 (97.90%) of a total of 5,000 dissertations and theses. Only 1,222 (24.96%) of these studies were approved by a Research Ethics Committee (REC), while 2,009 (41.04%) referred to the use of the Informed Consent Form (ICF).
