Abstract

From a proposal-oriented perspective, this theoretical essay aims to critically examine the ethical-political challenges shaping Psychology education and practice in the current context of digital technologies and the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), bringing together critical theories, possible courses of action, interdisciplinary perspectives, and global macro-level policies on technology governance. It argues that AI represents an inflection point that turns the psyche into a substrate for data extraction and gives rise to the attention economy, thereby affecting collective mental health. It highlights the need to move beyond the liberal conception of the autonomous subject and to avoid the risk of pathologizing the use of digital tools. The essay offers reflections and possible pedagogical pathways, advocating both technological and sociopolitical literacy as a means of challenging knowledge extractivism and protecting collective rights in the face of the growing algorithmic appropriation of social life, as well as the creative and ethical use of technologies and the promotion of digital citizenship beyond the field of Psychology.

Keywords: Artificial intelligence technologies. Mental health. Digital citizenship.
