This article is the result of the research “Teatro da Caravana Siga Bem: project with and for truck drivers in the light of Paulo Freire’s legacy”, presented in the Graduate Program in Performing Arts at the Federal University of São João del-Rei, Minas Gerais, Brazil. From 2006 to 2016, the Teatro da Caravana Siga Bem helped to look at the social issues addressed in the plays presented to truck drivers at gas stations in the country with a cast of truck drivers as well. The theoretical framework is based on Paulo Freire, Bertolt Brecht and authors who discuss popular culture. The analysis of the plays was made in the light of the Freirean and Brechtian ideas, which revealed affinities between this popular and pedagogical theater project that discussed themes such as child violence and human rights, Paulo Freire’s ideas for a liberating education and Bertolt Brecht’s ideas about Epic and didactic Theater.
