Qualis: the construction of an index for the Education journals

Abstract

This article aims to present a methodology for the Education scientific journals evaluation in Brazil. It is an initial effort to discuss important aspects for such evaluation and to contribute with the debate in the process of criteria elaboration for the CAPES Qualis Journals. The proposal presented here, to create an index, highlights four central elements for the evaluation: Periodicity, Internationalization, Origin and Geographic Distribution of Authors, and Impact Factor, looking for give conditions to evaluate, quantify, classify and rank the journals considering how current, representative, international and read / quoted they are.
