Abstract

This paper presents an experimental study about the formation of frost on a flat surface of varnished stainless steel and on a smooth surface. The formation of frost occurs through the humid air flow on a surface below 0°C and is present in various commercial and industrial applications, where the accumulation of ice affects the performance of cooling equipment, decreasing efficiency and increasing energy costs. The experiments were carried out in a controlled environment in a stainless-steel flat plate, coated with a varnish layer and an uncoated. The results show the thickness and speed of deposition of the frost layer, showing the behavior of phenomena on the studied surfaces.
