GEOTECHNICAL STUDY FOR CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF A SECTION OF THE BR-364/RO ROAD

Abstract

Pathological manifestations on highway pavements have caused problems in different regions of the country. Thus, they show the need to investigate it for a better understanding of the factors that cause the emergence of anomalies on Brazilian roads. Its determinations become essential because it affects the daily lives of people who travel on the roads, resulting in increased discomfort, insecurity and expenses with vehicle maintenance. The objective of this work is to identify the causes and propose solutions for the deficiencies found in the section of the highway under study. To achieve the objective, the granulometry, liquidity limit, plasticity limit, California Support Index and sand equivalent tests were carried out in the samples collected from four windows (window 01 - pile 6050, window 02 - pile 5686, window 03 - stake 5390 and window 04 - stake 5355) along the stretch of highway. As a result, it was observed that the reasons for the emergence of pathologies are due to the poor quality of the materials contained in the base layer and the structural deficiency of the structure. In short, it was concluded that the choice of a suitable material for the execution of the base layer is of great importance for the good functioning of the pavement structure.
