PROJECT MANAGEMENT: UNDERSTANDING THE AWP METHODOLOGY AND THE APPLICATION OF THE “ALPHABETIC SOUP”
Abstract
Planning promotes the collection and verification of data in a qualified and reliable way regarding the monitoring of the project, providing the necessary support for decisions about deadlines and costs during the executive process. Adhering to the expected deadline and meeting projected costs leads to excellence in the pre-established work. The importance of homogenizing the sectors involved is a key factor. The fact is that promoting this integration is still challenging, especially where there is no culture of processes based on planning, based only on the need for the progress of the work demand. Under this bias, methods and tools for continuous performance improvement are developed, covering everything from engineering to execution. The AWP has this purpose, seeking integration between sectors, subdividing the executive phase into work packages, organizing the programming of activities appropriately, executing them with the objective of meeting expected deadlines and costs, bringing market competitiveness. This article aims to discuss planning, the AWP methodology and the use of its encodings, the famous “alphabet soup”. The results obtained reinforce the importance of the interaction of the sectors involved in a project, in addition to adequate control over the processes, avoiding delays and higher costs, as recommended in the AWP methodology
