Abstract

The article aims to investigate which statistics of Brazilian municipalities are associated with higher levels of people who declared to live with a partner of the same sex in 2010. Using an econometric methodology and data from the 2010 Brazilian demographic Census, the first official survey to universally collect statistics on the homosexual population in Brazil, the research measured the importance of each variable considered, both individually and collectively. The research found evidences suggesting that television, population size,
urbanization, the incidence of AIDS, the existence of divorced persons and of women responsible for homes had positive impacts on the expression of homosexual conjugality in Brazilian cities. In contrast, religion had ambivalent results.
