Abstract

Women in urban agriculture have been important subjects in ensuring the food security of their families and communities, as well as maintaining green areas in the metropolises. However, they are invisible in the main economic theories and still have little access to public policies due to the non-generation of direct monetary income. The main objectives of this article are to present the socioeconomic profile of a group of female urban farmers on the outskirts of São Paulo and their strategies for agroecological production and food from the Feminist Economy Theory and the Ecofeminism perspectives. The methodology is based on participant observation through the presence in the meetings of the Rede das Agricultoras Paulistanas Periféricas Agroecológicas (RAPPA) and by carrying out semi-structured interviews and guided tours in production units headed by women.
