Abstract

In this article we discuss the processes, contents, forms and conditions that signify and/or qualify the kitchen as a geographical spatiality, which we call kitchen-territory. The hyphen marks the power struggles that take place between women cooks and men cooks when both bodies are present and participate in a kitchen that purports to be industrial. Namely, our writing was based on narrative review. This includes the theoretical contributions of feminist geographies, black feminisms and conceptual keys such as territory (RAFFESTIN, 1993), performativity (BUTLER, 2003), intersectionality (CRENSHAW, 2002) and images of control (COLLINS, 2019). To discuss the results, we read and problematized reports obtained through descriptive questionnaires that were answered by some women cooks. Finally, we emphasize that the female presence in contemporary cuisine is subordinated to a sexist and machista ethos, which in part differs from a colonial sexist and machista ethos, but that the correspondence between the two occurs when we verify that women cooks continue to be oppressed due to her femininity, her body and her abilities (intellectual, physical and/or emotional).
