O DIREITO ANIMAL EM TEMPOS DE PANDEMIA
Abstract
The article deals with a current topic, legal protection in relation to animal suffering resulting from the pandemic caused by the coronavirus. It aims to address the history of COVID-19; check how animals are affected by the coronavirus; and, finally, to analyze the abuse to which they are subjected, mainly the abandonment, from the legal point of view. The methodology used is exploratory, through literature review in different sources that focus on this theme. As a result, it appears that the lack of knowledge about the transmission of the virus causes an increase in the number of abandoned and abused animals. On the other hand, social isolation has increased the number of adoptions. It appears that, due to the pandemic, not only humans are affected; unfortunately, animals also suffer the consequences, despite being protected by legislation.
