Drawing and Creativity in Childhood. The Drawing Workshops of "Escola Imaxinada"

Abstract
The practice of drawing at school is a reflection of a context in which artistic education is not of social interest and is not promoted by institutions, which has an impact on the poor training of teachers in the area. In this article we first analyze two views of drawing strongly rooted in the school context that inhibit creativity: «copy drawing» and «free drawing». Then we show a series of drawing workshops carried out with children in kindergarten as a result of our artistic and educational research as artists and teachers in a Teacher Training Faculty. These workshops are based on the creative processes of the arts that understand drawing as an action of exploration that allows us to relate to the world around us. All of them share a series of characteristics: a) to emphasize the idea of process, that is, to discover open ways of doing things that do not seek a single result; b) to experiment with different materials, techniques and artistic languages; c) to favor the creation of a personal imaginary and style, moving away from stereotyped and conventional responses; and d) to educate the aesthetic sense.
