O ENGAJAMENTO LITERÁRIO E O ROMANCE NO SÉCULO XX

Abstract

O artigo apresenta uma abordagem do engajamento literário ocorrido na primeira metade do século XX, período em que muitos escritores, inconformados com os problemas politicos-sociais vividos na época, engajaram seus escritos, conciliando elaboração estética com literatura de intervenção social. Na primeira parte do texto, discute-se o conceito de engajamento literário com base na teorização feita por Jean-Paul Sartre. Na segunda, apresentam-se as diferenças existentes entre literatura de engajamento, literatura militante e literatura engajada, conforme a distinção realizada por Benoît Denis. E na terceira parte, aborda-se o romance engajado escrito nas primeiras décadas do século XX pelos escritores norte-americanos, franceses, italianos, hispanos-americanos, brasileiros e portugueses.
