MEMORY AND MELANCHOLY IN THREE SHORT STORIES BY RAUL POMPEIA
Abstract
This paper aims to discuss how memory and melancholy manifest in three Raul Pompeia’s short stories, “A Andorinha da Torre”, “Olhos” and “Perfume dos Bolos”. It is noticed that its aesthetic orientation prioritizes the harmonious coexistence between opposites: old man/child, shadow/light, life/death. For this approach, through the comparative method, we sought to know a little more about the style and themes present in this author’s content production. As a result, it appears that protagonist’ melancholy is directly linked to the feeling of loss of the beloved figure. The confidences of the narrator and his memory occur after the absence of the mourned object.
