DIVERSITY AND LANGUAGE POLICIES IN FOZ DO IGUAÇU: A HISTORICAL VIEW

Authors

Abstract

This research, inserted in the studies of Applied Linguistics, in its indisciplinary aspect, in dialogue with the field of language policies and qualitative; aims to make a study and discussion the historical path of the language policies of Foz do Iguaçu. Located in the west of Paraná state, on the Triple Border (Brazil-Argentina-Paraguay) and known as one of the largest tourist centres in the country, the city has always had a large flow of national and international migrants, who influence its landscape and linguistic actions. However, despite this context, there is currently no complete mapping of the present linguistic diversity and there is no defined official language policy, which privileges Portuguese and makes other languages/cultures invisible and shows the non-existence of that “harmonisation” among ethnic groups highlighted by the media.
