THE COUNTER-ARGUMENT RELATION IN AN INTERACTIONIST APPROACH FOR THE STUDY OF DISCOURSE RELATIONS
Abstract
In this paper, our goal is to study the role of the counter argument relation in the negotiation of faces and places in the context of a journalistic interview. To meet our goal, we use an interactionist approach to study of discourse or textual relations proposed by the School of Geneva that has been developed by the Research Group in Pragmatics, Text and Discourse (GEPTED) of Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). From our analysis, it was possible to verify that the counter argument relation works as a resource that helps the speaker to prevent or, at least, to try to prevent objections from the interlocutor. It was possible to verify also that the discourse relation helps the speaker to object the interlocutor’s move, to attack his face and to invade his place.
