CHALLENGES AND PROTAGONISM: THE REPRESENTATION OF BLACK WOMEN IN THE ARTS ACCORDING TO SILVANA MENDES AND CRISTIANE SOBRAL
Abstract
The research reflects on the role of black women as agents of representativeness in the arts and highlights the challenges of achieving protagonism as artists. The theoretical framework is based on Cultural Studies and discusses the challenges and impacts of female representation in art, especially of black women. The methodological procedures adopted involve a bibliographical survey. The study takes an analytical approach to Silvana Mendes’ collage and Cristiane Sobral’s poetry.
