No momento, embora os estudos da lingüística tenham abordado inúmeros aspectos, relacionados ao ensino/aprendizagem de língua, ainda há poucos resultados práticos de suas contribuições para o ensino. Por essa razão, cada vez mais se discute a importância da lingüística sobre os fundamentos das práticas pedagógicas na escola. Assim, a proposta do presente estudo é promover uma reflexão sobre as questões relacionadas à evolução histórica da fonética, à descrição dos sons e como está sendo trabalhada no livro didático de quinta série.

Presently, though studies on linguistics have worked on innumerable aspects related to the teaching/learning of a language, there are only a few practical results of their contributions for education. Therefore, the importance of linguistics for the fundamentals of the pedagogical practice in school is more frequently discussed today. The aim of the present study is to refl ect on the issues related to the historic evolution of phonetics, on the description of the sounds, and on how these matters have been dealt with in the didactic book of the fi fth year (Ensino Fundamental).
