La novela La brasa en la mano, de Oscar Hermes Villordo produce un quiebre en el canon vigente en la literatura argentina a partir de la intervención de la Dictadura Militar. Los valores morales, religiosos y estéticos permitidos observaban un dispositivo establecido que diferenciaba lo permitido de lo prohibido.
El texto, gestado durante ese período se publica el año del advenimiento de la democracia y expone, de manera contundente, la presencia de lo subalterno como categoría discursiva genuina. Tanto el contenido como el lenguaje exponen un mundo marginal y negado en el espacio socio-político dominante.
Creemos que la obra es parte del campo cultural de la dictadura, a la que menciona indirectamente a través de su reverso.
