Abstract

This article aims to report the experience of implementing a Reference Center for Integrative and Complementary Practices in the São Francisco Valley (CERPICS) that works along with a teaching-research-extension program. More than 450 people were assisted, with around 2500 appointments, through the support of volunteers. The continuous education activities were carried out with professionals linked to the Unified Health System who referred users to CERPICS. In the scope of this research, it was possible to track users’ profile based on socioeconomic data from 130 people. Most users were 41 to 60 years old (60.2%) and 89.5% were women; 36.1% had no fixed income or earned just 1 minimum wage (33.8%) and 50.4% of the users took controlled medication daily. Challenges in the scope of assistance, training and research permeate the project, but we consider it important to continue working to achieve improvements in the culture of care.
