Abstract

The Handcrafted Paper Play Workshop Project (POLPA) was a university extension action developed by academics from the Forestry Engineering Course at the Federal University of Amazonas applied to young people who attended the Oficina Escola de Lutheria da Amazônia (OELA) and mothers from the Centro Espírita Casa do Caminho, both in Manaus. The objective was to enable them to reuse waste paper scraps to generate income through the products developed. Two meetings were held at each partner institution, where 17 academics, 16 children and young people from OELA and 15 women from C. E. Casa do Caminho participated in the project. The action was able to provide a playful occupation and an entrepreneurial vision, where handmade paper can become an alternative source of income, using low-cost inputs, in addition to reusing waste that would otherwise be discarded in the environment.
