The objective was to analyze the experiences of transgender people as users of the SUS in assistance at the secondary care level. Given the panorama of carelessness towards transsexual people, in 2016, the extension project “Comprehensive health care for LGBT people – building spaces for nursing care for transsexuals” was created at the Faculty of Nursing of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Through it, field research of a descriptive nature was carried out with a qualitative approach, defining as participants 10 self-declared transsexual individuals, in the setting of a public university hospital, a reference in the transsexualization process. Respondents expressed positivity in relation to outpatient service units, due to the reception and focus directed to their particularities. It is inferred that nursing plays an essential role in the population's adherence to the health network and continuity of care.
