Abstract

The extension axis of universities plays a crucial role in addressing social challenges such as population aging. This paper aims to present the experience report of fifteen medical students in the "My Old Stories" project, linked to the Extension Scholarship Program of the State University of the Tocantina Region of Maranhão - UEMASUL. Conducted between March and October 2023, the project aimed to provide care and promote the health of the elderly in a Long-Term Care Institution (ILPI) and in an Elderly Community Center (CCPI) in Imperatriz, Maranhão. Activities included music therapy, storytelling, playfulness, interpersonal dynamics, and a social campaign, resulting in significant benefits for the mental health of the elderly and students, such as the humanization of academics and the strengthening of intergenerational bonds.
