Abstract

The objective of this work is to identify the profile of the students enrolled in the Cursinho Popular Êxito, considering socioeconomic aspects, the expectation in relation to the course and the dream of entering the university, as well as the challenges imposed by the pandemic. This is a case study carried out by questionnaire, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The data reveal a young, low-income, white profile, with a majority of women, and formed by graduates of the state education network. The students dedicate, on average, two hours a day to study and sought the prep course because they do not feel prepared for the exam. In addition, they believe that the pandemic makes it difficult for the popular classes to access higher education and, sometimes, they feel psychologically and emotionally unmotivated with the exam. As an extension project, the Cursinho presented itself, in 2020, as one of the few study alternatives for students, who have restricted access to the internet and other materials.
