Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Self-medication, a common practice among university students due to the intense academic workload, involves the use of medications without professional guidance to address physical and mental health issues. To combat this practice, it is crucial to disseminate reliable information about its risks through social media. Objective: This report describes the extension activity "Risks of Self-Medication Among University Students" carried out on Instagram from January to April 2024, aimed at informing and raising awareness among students about the dangers of self-medication. Method: Fourteen posts were made, covering topics such as indications, contraindications, adverse reactions, drug interactions, as well as the risks of bacterial resistance, dependency, and other serious complications. Results: Interaction with the audience occurred through stories and polls, allowing the selection of topics for the posts, which increased engagement. Conclusion: It was concluded that such initiatives can help reduce self-medication and its negative impacts on students' health.
