Sunlight benefits the body, but excessive exposure poses health risks due to solar radiation. Sportspeople are especially vulnerable, as they spend long periods exposed to the sun during training and competitions. With this in mind, an extension event was held with members of the “Cosmetics in Facts” project to raise awareness among outdoor sports enthusiasts about the importance of photoprotection and the effects of solar radiation, using playful strategies such as games, information leaflets and thematic questions. This article describes, in the form of an experience report, the results of the action carried out with athletes at the Miécimo da Silva Sports Center (CEMS), in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The activity highlighted the importance of extension activities in broadening the population's knowledge, promoting protection and well-being. It also confirmed that these initiatives strengthen autonomy in health, disseminate scientific knowledge and bring the university closer to the community.
