Abstract

We intend to analyze in this text the complexity from dialectical relations between natural space, the society and its political decisions regarding Paraná’s Vale do Ribeira, through the analyses of the historical geography from the cities of Cerro Azul and Doutor Ulysses. These are the remnants of what once was the ex-colony Assunguy, one of the oldest in the state, and nowadays, respectively present the lowest human development indexes from the state. This research was made through the execution of the Extension Service Provision Project named “Advice on the construction of urban and regional development projects for cities with Medium and Low HDI in the State of Paraná, through the preparation/review of their Participatory Master Plans.” Through this research practice - extension, we could identify that these cities are the result of variables and multiscalar political decisions, that were made over time and, nowadays are dependent of its trajectory.
