With each new generation, customs, behaviors and verbal expressions and popular stories have been forgotten or assuming new meanings. Thinking about the importance of re-signification of these stories, we designed this study to contribute to building mechanisms for preservation of popular culture. For this, we’ve transcribed the reports of five inmate elderly from St. Augustine Asylum, aiming to bring out their culture, creating favorable conditions for the elderly socialization the and undoing the unilateral and stigmatized vision that comes from antiquity, which immobilizes elderly making them unable to react against to the old age stigma. Noting that the most of these subjects have no schooling literacy, we’ve realized how much wisdom they have to share stories with a proper pedagogy for reading and interpreting the world.
