HEALTH AND LEISURE PROGRAM IN IFSC: CONTRIBUTING TO REACH AN ACTIVE LIFE DURING THE AGING PROCESS

Aging is a complex process involving multiple factors that interact with each other intrinsically. Demographic data are eloquent in showing that the segment of the population that has had greater proportional increase is composed of people over 60, indicating the relevance of scientific and social programs that contribute to health promotion and to the implementation of social policies and educational interventions to people during their aging process. In this perspective, this article describes the alternative intervention program Health and Leisure carry out at Instituto Federal de Santa Catarina – IFSC through educational activities for seniors. It contemplates the biopsychosocial aspects of human aging and its guideline is a physical education program. The results obtained indicate the increase of social relations, the improvement in functional capacity and the raise of the participants’ self-esteem.
