Abstract

This article aims to carry out some reflections on university extension as privileged space for professional learning and for strengthening the relation between teaching and scientific research in Brazilian Higher Education. It is divided into three parts. It initially presents some conceptual definitions about the term “university extension” in the broad sense. Then it explains the inseparability of teaching, research and extension in contemporary university. Finally, it seeks to make some comments concerning the main contributions of extension activities to the professional learning of the university students given the importance of the establishment of relations between the university and society to achieve progress in the political, economic, cultural, technological and scientific field.
