The outreach project "Incentivo ao Hábito da Leitura na UFCSPA” was carried out at Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre until 2009 and its main goal was to encourage the reading of literature by the university community. The project included the following actions: “Books without a home”, “Shared Reading”, “Shared Reading in the Social Medias, “Elective Course on Literary Creation”, “Elective Course The Wheel of Life” and “Creative Writing Meeting and Literary Soiree”, all of these actions are described in this article. It was observed that the use of literature can be used to educate professionals capable of viewing reality in Health Education from a humanized perspective, based on reflection and on the debate of institutional and social standards. The project and its actions provided students with the opportunity to act as individuals, allowing critical basis for the constitution of individuals as well as the support to students to understand human phenomena under various perspectives and to respect diversity.Downloads
