Abstract

The article aimed to analyze the perceptions of graduates in Physical Education regarding their experience in a university extension project in schools, as well as to identify the educational processes triggered during their initial teacher training. The study included nine participants who answered an electronic questionnaire and took part in semi-structured interviews, which were analyzed through thematic categorization. Three categories emerged: (a) “Discovering Oneself as a Teacher,” related to the initial motivations for joining the project; (b) “Learning from One Another,” highlighting learning experiences influenced by Freirean Pedagogy; and (c) “Becoming a Teacher,” demonstrating the impacts on teacher identity. The findings indicate that participation in the project contributed to understanding the school environment, exchanging knowledge, strengthening relationships, and fostering both professional and personal development. The study reinforces the importance of University Extension in teacher training, consolidating its role in the university tripod alongside Teaching and Research.
