GROWING LETTUCE IN CÁCERES MT: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

Aiming to expand, integrate and validate knowledge about growing lettuce in Cáceres city – MT , it was developed studies between May, 2010 and May, 2011 at Mato Grosso University – UNEMAT . The project activities were conducted in three phases. In the first one, it was identified the producers of lettuce in Cáceres-MT ; in the second, it was visited the production units; in the third, it was promoted the event Day of the Farmer. The producers were identified through visits to the local lettuce market, agricultural stores and lettuce producers. The visits at he properties were made in order to recognize areas of production, diagnose problems and discuss research demands. The events were held in order to present the previous research results obtained by the University and the current results obtained in the experimental field. It was organized lectures about themes suggested by the producers. It were identified 38 lettuce producers, the producer participation in the events was high, and it was identified the applicability of the results to the producers. In conclusion, the results suggest that the methodology was appropriate for production and dissemination of technology, integrating the knowledge to the lettuce cultivation in Cáceres-MT.
