Abstract

This paper shows the relations between the novel The hour of the star, published in 1977 by Clarice Lispector, and the movie, with the same title, directed by Suzana Amaral and released in 1985. The elements which structure literature and cinema are different, so it is necessary to establish parameters to compare them. This way, the analysis exposed here is centered, especially, comparing Macabéa’s characterization in the novel and in the movie, based on the re ection of Avellar (2007), Stam (2008) and Xavier (2003). Amaral manages to translate to the cinema, either suppressing or adding elements, the feelings and emotions of a heroine, apparently silent for being marginal, who uses, in fact, parsimony as a weapon to face the system.
