Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

General instructions for paper publication

  1. Novel original works (regarding publication) can be submitted to the Pauta Geral Editorial Board for evaluation.
    2. The Editorial Board reserves the right to alter the original, aiming to keep the homogeneity and quality of the publication; however, respecting the author(s)’ style and opinions as expressed in the text.
    3. Opinions put forward in the text will be the author(s)’ sole responsibility.
  2. Every work must be submitted using the template.
    5. The works must include: Title, Abstract, 03 (three) keywords in Portuguese and English, 30 thousand to 40 thousand characters, 1.5 spacing between lines, font Arial 11, including notes and references.
    6. The images used in the texts must be referenced in the material and inserted in the same file, in JPG and 300 DPIs minimum resolution.
    7. Notes must be reduced to the minimum possible and appear as footnotes numbered starting with number 1.
    8. Pauta Geral accepts papers from authors that are researchers linked to higher education institutions and hold at least a PhD degree (students in doctorate and master’s programs can be co-authors). Each article can be signed by up to two people only (author and/or co-author).
    9. In the event of papers elaborated from dissertations and theses, name and title of the advisor professor must be included in the Pauta Geral register.
    10. If the research has received financial support from any institution, it must be mentioned by the author(s), as a footnote at the beginning of the text.
    11. All texts will be evaluated by two reviewers. And, if a negative review is given, a third reviewer’s evaluation will be provided.
    12. Papers must be submitted without identifying the author(s).
    13. The journal does not charge for publication or access.

 

Direct quotes:
a) Inserted in the text: short quotes (up to three lines), between inverted comas, in the format (AUTHOR, date, page).
b) Indented: Quotes over three lines appear in indented text (4 cm indentation from the left margin, font 10, simple spacing between lines) (AUTHOR, date, page).

Indirect quotes: source must be cited (AUTHOR, date), inserted in the paragraph where the author’s ideas are exposed, or at the end of it as a reference note.

Free quotes: another way of citing the source is indicating the author followed by year and page. Ex. According to Author… (year) or According to author… (year, page).

Reference notes: the reference note must appear at the end of the quote, indicating the author’s SURNAME in capital letter, year of publication, followed by the number of the page from which the quote was extracted. The complete information about the work cited shall appear in the references.

Footnotes: only used to add relevant information related to the text.

References: References presented according to the ABNT norm shall appear in alphabetical order of author/title, at the end of the text. The accuracy and suitability of references used in the text are the author(s)’ sole responsibility.

Articles

Review

The review text must be in Word format (97/00 or equivalent, which enables opening the file in different operational environment versions), font Arial 11, 1,5 spacing between lines, between 3 and 5 pages (3,500 to 5,000 characters), including notes and footnotes whenever needed.

Dossier

When planning the theme issues, in the dossier format, the Pauta Geral editorial board makes the proposal available to authors indicating the theme axis defined and the deadlines set.
Regarding paper publications, the editorial instructions are the same as those in regular issues.

Interview

This section aims to reproduce dialogues with thinkers, intellectuals, or researchers in the journalism area who have contributed to their activity area. In all cases, authors must meet the requirements of the Portuguese grammar, if the interview is in Portuguese, or the general instructions that enable universal understanding, if the interview is in an English, Spanish, or French version.

Publishing papers on a specific theme.

Dossier (Vol. 11, No. 1) | The Place of the Journalistic Paradigm in the Scientific Field: Epistemological Debates

On the occasion of planning thematic editions in the form of dossiers, the editorial coordination of Pauta Geral disseminates the proposal to authors, specifying the defined thematic axis and the corresponding established deadlines. For article submissions, the editorial guidelines will remain consistent with those of regular editions.
