Abstract

From mediatization operations, the issue of refugees starts to be discussed in different social spaces, among them the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where it is explored through the Refugee Olympic Team (TOR). In this paper, we discuss the mediatization of this specific group of migrants based on news produced and disseminated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the Olympic Team. Through the analysis of the meanings that emerge in this news, we observe how the mediatization of the issue of refugees enables the production of meanings about these subjects, as well as in relation to the social context in which these populations are inserted.
