An analysis on how the press behave at the time, indicating permanency and divergences between both epochs. It may represent a possibility of increase in professional practice as well as a tool to analyse the role of the press nowadays. The results presented in this article are the result of both cataloging and analyzing published editions in Brazil between September 1918 and September 1919 by the Journalism and Humor Research Group, of the Department of Social Communication at the Federal University of Pernambuco, which also seeks to identify the importance of humor in the news coverage of pandemics.
