Notes for a cartography of non-fictional comics and comics journalism

Abstract

Non-fiction comics and comics journalism already have a vast production, rich in a variety of themes, formats and supports. The purpose of this text is to contribute to a possible cartography of these fields. Using a comprehensive concept of comics as a language, we work here both with works of artistic ambitions and with essentially technical or informative pieces. We enumerate a variety of non-fictional comic book genres. We then deal with the field of comic journalism, where we propose a division into three fields: Journalistic comics in the traditional media; Journalistic comics in exclusive media; Journalistic comics in non-journalistic media.
