Creation and consolidation of the Graduate Program in Education of the Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa – UEPG (1993-2010)

The main objective of this paper is to describe and explain the history of the Graduate Program in Education (Master’s/Doctorate) of the State University of Ponta Grossa (Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa - UEPG). Circumscribed to the years of creation of the Master’s (1993) and Doctoral (2010), favoring the reconstitution of some aspects of the creation of the Council of Teaching, Research and Extension (Conselho de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão - CEPE), Pro-Rectory of Research and Graduate studies of the Master’s in Education and the process of consolidation of the Graduate Program in Education that culminated in the PhD in Education. From a set of historical sources, from the academic production and Bourdieu’s concepts of field and habitus, we seek to make explicit the actions of the academic community of the UEPG that resulted in the constitution of the Graduate Program in Education, taking into consideration that these initiatives were associated to the context of the policies of expansion of the graduate courses in Education in Brazil.
