A ARTE “CIVILIZADA” DE GRACILIANO RAMOS: UMA CONSTRUÇÃO DA CRÍTICA LITERÁRIA BRASILEIRA ENTRE AS DÉCADAS DE 30 E 60 (SÉCULO XX)

Este artigo examina o comportamento da crítica literária em relação à obra de Graciliano Ramos, entre as décadas de 30 e 60 do século XX, procurando exemplificar a persistência da mentalidade preconceituosa da intelectualidade brasileira quanto às possibilidades do desenvolvimento de um pensamento científico e “positivo” no país. A análise dos escritos de um segmento que se dedicou a discutir os elementos peculiares à cultura brasileira em concomitância com a análise dos trabalhos da crítica, permite compreender a constituição da imagem que se cunhou acerca do romancista neste período.

This article examines the conduct of the review from 1930s to 1960s concerning the work of Graciliano Ramos, intending to exemplify the persistence of the Brazilian intelligentsia’s prejudicial mentality about the possibility of the development of a scientific and “positive” thinking in its country. The analysis of a segment’s writings that discussed the peculiar elements to Brazilian culture concur with the analysis of the work’s review permits understanding the constitution of the novelist’s image in this period.
