Abstract

This article aims to verify the causes of the recent crisis in the Brazilian sugarcane industry (from the international crisis of 2008), and the challenges that were present in this important area of the country 's economy. It could be verified that the sugarcane agroindustry needed to be restructured in a way that could remain competitive, seeking technological and management innovations aimed at interconnecting and conducting the integral parts of its activities. In general, the processes of Brazilian industries underwent transformations that provoked pressures in the various areas of activity and in the sugarcane agroindustry was not different, however, it was verified that the international crisis initiated in 2008 contributed to many sugarcane plants / distilleries losing opportunities due to its fragile financial condition in view of the public power subsidizing fossil fuels and thus discouraging the commercialization of ethanol.
