Abstract

Infectious diseases are a major cause of death among patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Knowledge about microorganisms and its mode of transmission may minimize the risks of the bone marrow transplant patients being exposed to potentially pathogenic microorganisms. Thus, this study aims to report the educational activities carried out within the scope of the outreach project “The care for bone marrow transplant patients from the Clinics Hospital (HC) of the Triângulo Mineiro Federal University (UFTM): an approach to prevent infectious diseases", which aimed to guide patients submitted to BMT, as well as their companions on care for infection prevention. Health education actions, using didactic and ludic resources, were developed by a team of professors and undergraduate students from different health courses of the UFTM. This experience report is expected to stimulate similar actions by other health educational institutions.
