This article intends to report the execution process of the extension project “Inspire: first aid in situations of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) in children”, carried out by the Medicine course of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ), Dom Bosco campus. The project, carried out with professionals from children's schools in the municipalities of São João del-Rei (MG) and Tiradentes (MG), aims to promote community health education, focusing on the prevention and management of pediatric emergencies, notably, the FBAO. The results of the research on the effectiveness of the workshops are presented, using a descriptive methodology, based on the application of a knowledge questionnaire, pre and post-intervention. The dynamics offered by the project included theoretical and practical activities related to the recognition and management of FBAO, as well as the production of health education instruments, such as banners and information booklets aimed at the school community.
